Ukrainian international defender Eduard Sobol (27), from FC Bruges (Belgium), has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace.
A three-time Belgian champion with FC Bruges and regularly playing in the Champions League, champion of Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk, Eduard Sobol, trained at Metalurg Zaporoje, has also played in the Czech league. “It was there, during a derby against Sparta while he was playing for Slavia Prague, that we first monitored him in 2018,” says Loïc Désiré, head of Racing’s recruitment cell, who has since regularly followed his progress in Belgium.
“Since Thomas Delaine’s injury, the club has focused on finding a left back and we are very happy to finalize Eduard Sobol’s arrival, a very good player who already has experience at the highest level,” says Racing President Marc Keller.
Sobol, also beaming, was pleased with his transfer to Racing: “It’s a beautiful step in my football career and my life, I arrive at an important club and a historic city. I am a winner and I am determined to give everything for my team. I can’t wait to play my first match with Racing and discover the Meinau atmosphere!“
A stadium in which Eduard Sobol has already had the opportunity to play, since this athletic, offensive-minded left back played there with the Ukrainian U21s in October 2015 against the French U21 of a certain… Frédéric Guilbert.
