Racing, which is celebrating the 45th anniversary of its lone French title, will give a special welcome to the heroes of the 1979 season. At the invitation of the club and after a gathering at a Strasbourg restaurant, they will come together on the pitch at La Meinau for a well-deserved tribute before the kick-off of Racing-Metz.
A little earlier, La Meinau will also be the scene of an exhibition match between the former legends of the evening’s two teams in a friendly match. It will be an opportunity to remind fans of memories of the most thrilling moments in the history of our derbies.
Léonard Specht, President of the Former Players’ Association and the Racing Mutest Academy, speaks emotionally of the importance of this event: “It’s much more than a simple reunion of former players, this event is a testimony to our heritage, of our unwavering bond with our supporters and our city. It is also a tribute to the friendship and respect that transcend sporting rivalries.”
