Matz Sels joins Nottingham Forest

Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace and Nottingham Forest (England) have reached an agreement for the transfer of goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Arriving in Strasbourg in the summer of 2018 from Newcastle, Matz Sels has since played 175 matches in all competitions in Alsatian colours. He is one of the five most-capped goalkeepers in the history of the club, behind several legends: Dominique Dropsy (473 matches), Jean Schuth (318), Alexander Vencel (226) and Stéphane Cassard (213). In almost six seasons at the club, the Belgian goalkeeper won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2019, then was voted best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 Uber Eats by his peers in 2023.

“I would like to thank Matz who has been a true soldier for us all these years. He has been an exemplary goalkeeper and captain. But after almost six seasons here, he wanted a new challenge and expressed the wish to try his luck again in England. Matz has always been impeccable with the club. We now wish him the best for the rest of his career. He will remain a legend of Racing,” said Marc Keller, President of Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace.

The Belgian international also paid tribute to the club: “I am proud to have worn the colours of Strasbourg all these years. A huge thank you to the club, my teammates, the staff, the employees and the President. I loved playing in front of the fans at La Meinau, but I couldn’t refuse this opportunity. I had a measure of retribution to take from my last stint in the Premier League. I thank the club for understanding this. Strasbourg and RCSA represent a large part of my life and will always have a special place for me.”
