International round-up: Review of Strasbourgeois players

Six Racing players were called-up by their national teams for the international period in June.

Matz Sels (Belgium): Nations League – League A – Group A4

Selected by head coach Roberto Martínez alongside fellow Belgian goalkeepers Simon Mignolet and Koen Casteels, Matz Sels didn’t feature for the Red Devils. After a heavy defeat against the Netherlands in the first game, Belgium finished this Nations League window with two wins and a draw. Martínez’s team have seven points after four games and currently sit second behind the Netherlands (10 points).

Eiji Kawashima (Japan): Friendly Matches – Kirin Cup

Eiji Kawashima was selected for four matches for Japan: two friendlies and two as part of the traditional Kirin Cup, hosted in Japan. Unused by head coach Hajime Moriyasu during the friendlies, Kawashima played the entirety of the Samurai Blue’s 4-1 win over Ghana in the Kirin Cup semi-final. But Daniel Schmidt was in goal for the 3-0 loss against Tunisia in the final.

Sanjin Prcic (Bosnia-Herzegovina): Nations League – League B – Group B3

A pivotal figure in head coach Ivaylo Petev’s system, ‘Sani’ played a leading role during Bosnia’s international window, with three starts in four games. The Strasbourg midfielder wasn’t used during the trip to Montenegro. With eight points from four games, Bosnia-Herzegovina are top of the table ahead of Montenegro.

Habib Diallo (Senegal): 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers – Group L

Selected by head coach Aliou Cissé for the start of qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Habib Diallo started up front for Senegal in their second game against Rwanda. With two wins, the Lions of Teranga occupy first place in the table.

Ismaël Doukouré (France Under-19): Friendly matches ahead of the Under-19 European Championship

Ismaël Doukouré featured for France U19s in both 1-1 friendly draws against Israel in preparation for the U19 European Championship. Landry Chauvin’s squad begin their campaign against Slovakia this Saturday.

Aymeric Ahmed (Comores Under-20): International youth competition – Maurice Revello Tournament

Our young attacking midfielder Aymeric Ahmed represented Comoros’ U20 team in the Maurice Revello Tournament, formerly known as the Toulon Tournament. Finishing third in Group A, the Comorians ended the tournament eighth in the overall standings. In the two games that ended on penalties, Ahmed converted both his attempts.
